Chappaqua History
The name Chappaqua is said to stem from the Native-American word Shappequa, meaning the place of rustling brush. Chappaqua is a locale rather than a municipality. Residential development there began in earnest after World War II. Chappaqua lies on the Saw Mill River in the Hills of New Castle.
